Projects in association with Joshua Orphan and Community Care (JOSS) UK Registered Charity 1114727

We have been associated with this charity from the outset as they take care of our sponsorship programme alongside their own in Malawi and they were involved in the same area not far from Mitsidi CDSS.

In addition, projects more recently have included:-

  • Menstrual Health project originated in 2016. Utilising this service has been employed again for sponsored students in 2024"

In 2016, a contribution to the charity enabled the start-up of a Menstrual Health project to include Chiraweni Primary School. In Malawi, secrecy, misinformation, taboos and lack of hygenic materials and facilities mean girls stay at home each month, miss schooling and fail to reach their potential.

The candidates who sat for the Primary School Leaving Certificate Examination at Chilaweni School extend their gratitude and appreciation for all support you and all stakeholders (Donors) have done to support for their education. We are optimistic that majority will do well because of your support. The whole community is very grateful for all education support which has really transformed the school.

The project aims to educate, provide facilities and reduce the time lost each month by the older girls (may be up to 20 years old) in Primary School.

In 2017, a relatively small contribution was made to assist with the provision of a "Space Library" at Chiraweni Primary School. This uses solar power and old laptops without hard drives to bring low cost technology to a rural school. Teachers and the most senior students will use a "keepod" to store their own files.

More recently, a contribution was made to the building of a new Community Based Child Care Centre near Chiraweni. Joshua Orphan and Community Care had applied for funding to operate four new centres but one of the chosen centres was a near derelict church and after safety assessment, it was decided a new building was needed. A Centre provides a nutritious meal each day for pre-school children, commences their education and provides training and assistance to the voluntary carers from the local Community.
